Fun Found at Library

By Joyce LEE

For book lovers of all ages, summer is a time to have the freedom to read many books and enter new worlds of imagination. La Crescenta Library encourages this annual summer reading through its many summer programs. There are typically three events per week. Most of these events center around reading for bookworms of all ages but there are a few for kids to simply enjoy and have fun.

The most anticipated event for adult readers is Paws For a Mystery.  Paws For a Mystery is part of the library’s Paws For Reading Adult Summer Program. Participants can spend time with L.A. authors Sheila Lowe, Connie Archer, Linda O. Johnson and Mar Preston through the author round table mystery romp. This event will be held on Aug. 2 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Book enthusiasts will be able to see their imaginations come to life through the summer series, Paws for Reading Film Festivals. As the title suggests, the films will carry the same theme of love between a person and his furry best friend. This event will be held on July 16 at 6:30 p.m.

The event Paws for Poetry exemplifies readers’ love for both poetry and pets. Participants will read original poems about their pets. This event will feature the Village Poets of Sunland-Tujunga and Sunland-Tujunga’s new poet laureate Ela Frausto. Paws for Poetry will take place on July 19 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Aside from animals and individual reading, there are several events that touch on a variety of subjects. The American Cowboy will provide a virtual history lesson for participants. Not only will they learn about cowboys through listening to stories, songs, and facts, but they will also get the reward of a hands-on learning experience. A session that provides the chance to learn roping tricks will be available for all enthusiastic participants. Kids will have the opportunity to enjoy learning about the Old West. This event is scheduled for July 16 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Other events are solely for entertainment and laughter. David Comedy’s Juggling Show will consist of professional juggling acts, music, and comedy. This event will be held on July 30 from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Sock Animals Cuddle will allow teens to create their unique sock animals. This program will be on Aug. 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Richard Woloski’s Magical Puppet show will provide the audience with magic and laughter. This puppet show will be on Aug. 6 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
