The Boy Scouts of Troop 317 attended summer camp at Camp Kern from July 13-19. The camp is located at Huntington Lake, about 7,000 feet above the San Joaquin Valley in the high Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.
Under the leadership and guidance of Scoutmaster David Januzik, Asst. Scoutmaster Mike Smith, Parent Volunteer Sandy Russell, and many experienced camp staff, the Scouts learned leadership, self-reliance, service to others, and personal growth through various activities and programs. Many merit badges, like kayaking, fishing, plant science, archery, and rifle shooting, were earned by many of the boys.
Troop 317 campers included Ethan Arellano, Gabriel Britton, Gavin Crummel, David Januzik, Ryan Januzik, Sean Metz, Aedan Molina, Joshua Ponce, Allister Quizon, Sean Russell and Curtis Yun. The Troop meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Healy Hall, 2361 Del Mar Road, Montrose.
