Brewfest This Sunday

All who enjoy craft beer are invited to come to Montrose this weekend for the first annual Brewfest sponsored by Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce.

The event will be held on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. in the 2200 block of Honolulu Avenue. Participating brewers include Eagle Rock Brewing Co., Hangar 24, Golden Road and San Diego-based Stone Brewing Co.

Each year MVCCC sponsors Montrose Oktoberfest, which can attract 30,000 visitors with carnival rides for kids and lots of booths with pretzels and beer. Sunday’s event is expected to be more low key held in a beer garden style. The focus will be on local craft beer.

“We’re taking a cue from wine tasting,” said Scott Trulik from Oceanview Investments Group, the event’s chairperson. “It’s going to be a beer-tasting.”

Among those participating local businesses are New Moon Restaurant, Sake, Basin 141, Schriner’s Fine Sausages, and Montrose Bakery.

“We want to keep it limited in scope for now while we’re still getting a feel for it,” Trulik said. “But the response has already been positive. Many local businesses are asking us to expand if we hold the event next year.”

The event is a fundraiser for the MVCCC and its scholarship program, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to local charities. Glendale Fire (GFD), the Glendale Police Explorers’ Program and Crescenta Valley Sheriff Support Group (CVSSG) will each be receiving a $1,000 donation from the chamber.
