Webster Wiley Jr., 91, of Glendale, passed away July 19 at his home in Apple Valley. Son of Webster Sr. and Theldra Wiley, he was born in Los Angeles in 1922, and attended Glendale High School and college before serving in the Army Air Force during WWII. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn; children Webb and Laurel Wiley of La Cañada; Sheryl and Paul Zelhart of Commerce, Texas; Chris and Wolfgang Krause, La Cañada; and Annette Wiley of Corona del Mar; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Noted homebuilder and real estate developer, he built almost 1,000 homes during the 1950s through the 1970s throughout the La Crescenta-La Cañada Valley, known for their contemporary styling and progressive amenities. They are prized today for their “mid-century modern” aesthetic. Self-taught and visionary, an entrepreneur with marketing savvy, he was an accomplished private pilot, president of the local Building Industry of America chapter, involved in his community, always impeccably dressed and the life of any party.
