Prom Plus Club and the Community

Prom Plus Club is the youth arm of the Prom Plus non-profit organization. Five years ago, two Crescenta Valley High School students started Crescenta Valley High School Prom Plus Club and for the last two years I have been president of PPC.

PPC is not only a fun club for CVHS students to be a part of; it has also become an important part of the community and has grown over the years into one of the biggest student-run organizations in Crescenta Valley. We have also started a Rosemont Prom Plus Club, so we are expecting to grow even stronger.

Our club offers fun community activities for students to volunteer at such as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the Montrose Glendale Christmas Parade, both of which Prom Plus Club leads the volunteers.

You may see us, with our Prom Plus dark blue shirts on, at events throughout CV including California Council of the Blind Mutt Strut, Montrose Film Festival, Oktoberfest, Montrose Founders Day, Haunted House with Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation and this year at the Haunted Jail at the CV Sheriff’s Station. Members of PPC are also co-founders of the Fire House youth center and work with many other youth organizations.

Each year we also volunteer to support Prom Plus’ fundraisers. Taste of Montrose, back to school and open house barbecues and other events throughout the year help Prom Plus raise the $25,000 needed to put on the Prom Plus event on prom night.

For those who don’t know, Prom Plus hosts a supervised after prom party for CVHS seniors and their guests from midnight to 5 a.m. following the prom. Each year parents and community members raise funds to bring a rock climbing wall, mechanical bull, gyroscope, full casino and more games to the Crescenta Cañada YMCA for a night of fun. The “Y” has been a strong partner with Prom Plus for many years. In fact, there are many local, and even non-local, businesses and individuals that support Prom Plus. Without them we would not have a Prom Plus.

On behalf of Prom Plus Club, I would like to thank the community for all their support for Prom Plus and for our club. And in celebration of our 20 years, and celebrating our community, Prom Plus and Prom Plus Club are having a Prom Plus 20th anniversary blow out picnic this Saturday at CV Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crescenta Cañada Lions Club, a longtime friend of Prom Plus and Prom Plus Club, sponsors the event.

Prom Plus will be joined by many groups from CVHS as well as our community. Each organization will have a booth. You can read all about it in the cover story.

As the president of Prom Plus Club and board member of Prom Plus, I would like to say that we have enjoyed the club’s five years of helping the community, and Prom Plus will continue to keep the kids of Crescenta Valley High School safe.

We invite our community to join us in celebration of our 20 years of service and look forward to our future events.
