“Our Business is Your Business”

Remembering 9/11

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.”
~ George W. Bush
Most of us can remember exactly what we were doing on that horrible day. Like most, I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was getting the kids ready for school and preparing for my day. I always had the news on while doing my morning routine but there was definitely nothing routine about that morning. The news “special report” showed a burning building and they were speculating about what had happened. When I saw the other building explode, I watched in shock knowing that a lot of innocent people were going to die that day. Despite the horrific sight, I could not remove myself from the television. My husband, a plumbing contractor, was working. I called him. He saw it all at his customer’s house and sat with her watching the horrifying sight.

We closed our plumbing shop that day. We just could not work. We spent the whole day in front of the TV shocked, saddened, frightened, disturbed and confused about what this all meant. To this day, I’m still not sure.

What I do know is that we should never forget this day, we should learn from it and honor everyone who perished that day – not just the first responders but all the ordinary innocent people who suffered and perished that day. Today, Thursday, 9/11/14 at 9:11 a.m. Crescenta Valley will remember, honor and respect those lost with a Remembrance Parade starting at the Ralphs parking lot in the 2600 block of Foothill Boulevard. The procession will pass by five local fire stations, the CV Sheriff’s Station, Glendale Police Dept. – Montrose Station and all the local schools. There will also be an evening ceremony with music, prayer and refreshments held at Bob Smith Toyota at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Please show your support and participate.

Volunteers needed! Come this Saturday, Sept. 13 at 8:30 a.m. to the monthly off-ramp clean up from 8:30 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. Everyone is welcomed and volunteers are definitely needed! Meet at the top of the La Crescenta off-ramp and wear work clothes. All equipment, hard hats, reflective vests, etc. will be provided. You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer.
