Kenneth (Kenny) Senstad of Montrose, and Eric Pearson, a La Crescenta resident, received the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America Verdugo Council.  Both young men are from Troop 317 at Holy Redeemer Church in Montrose.

Senstad and Pearson received their BSA Eagle Award at a Court of Honor ceremony at Holy Redeemer’s Healy Hall on Sept. 21.

Senstad’s Eagle Scout project was at the Haramokngna American Indian Cultural Center in the Angeles National Forest where he coordinated the construction of a concrete and lumber wall around the site where Togvan Native American ceremonies take place. Also added to the project was a level walking path to allow handicap access. Native plants were planted around the ceremonial sites. The project was completed over four weekends last fall.

The Allen Lund Company, Ganahl Lumber, Beanca Gems, and several other private donors contributed to the project. The American Indian Cultural Center has become a destination for many to learn more about the history of the five regional California Indian tribes while enjoying outdoor scenery and trails.

Senstad has served as scribe, senior patrol leader, chaplain, quartermaster, assistant patrol leader, cheer master, and den chief and was nominated by the American Legion to attend the Youth Environmental Leadership Conference last May in Northern California.

He is using his scouting experience to organize camping trips in local mountains with boys from St. Francis High School who have had little or no camping experience. His passion is nature and he takes great pride in being self-sufficient.

Currently, Senstad is a senior at St. Francis High School and is the son of KT Boyce of Montrose and Mark Senstad of Pasadena.

Pearson began scouting as a second-year Webelo Scout. He has a variety of interests including basketball and drumline. Through his involvement in band he noticed a small concession stand at Glendale High School that was in need of updating. Pearson’s Eagle project was the cleaning and renovating of the home side concession stand at Moyse Field on the school campus.

In July 2013, Pearson coordinated a team of scouts and volunteers in the cleaning and painting of the room. He then worked with several scouts in the high school’s Construction Academy to build and stain cabinets, sliding cash drawers and coffee risers. These were installed into the facility, providing a safer and more efficient environment. The refurbishment of the concession stand benefitted not only Glendale High School, but also Hoover and Crescenta Valley high schools, which all share the stand for sports activities through PTSA. The project was partially funded by Glendale High School and private donors such as Richard Toyon, a past scout leader of Troop 317.

Pearson has served as assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader and scribe.

He is a junior at Crescenta Valley High. School and is the son of Bruce and Denise Pearson of La Crescenta.
