Five applicants from a total of 16 have been chosen to vie for the Glendale Unified School Board seat vacated by Mary Boger after her retirement.
The five chosen are Todd Hunt, Sandy Russell, Elizabeth Manasserian, Kevin Cordova Brookey and Jason Nyhan.
The five were chosen by a GUSD board committee consisting of board president Greg Krikorian and vice president Christine Walters.
All candidate applications were reviewed carefully, with the five chosen that would best fit the needs of the district, said Richard Sheehan, GUSD superintendent.
The five candidates will be interviewed at the GUSD special public meeting on Oct. 8. The board will announce the appointment at the end of that meeting and the new member will be sworn in during the board’s Oct. 21 meeting.
The new board member’s term will run through April 7, 2015, the same day as Election Day for GUSD.
