Oktoberfest 2014 – Keeping the Tradition Alive

See you on Saturday!

This Saturday, Oct. 4, the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 37th annual Oktoberfest in the Montrose Shopping Park in the 2200, 2300 and 2400 blocks of Honolulu Avenue starting right at noon. We will have everything you have come to know and love about our Oktoberfest as well some new surprises!

Right at noon we will have three combo booths open (one on each block) serving beer and brats and other tasty items; snacks and pretzel booths will be open throughout the event and a German beer booth will open right across the street from Bank of America. Once you have your food and drink, head over to our main stage located at the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu that features many performances by our local kids. At noon, Revolution Dance Center will start off the shows followed by many other studios in town. And, of course, all of our rides and games will be open for you to enjoy.

So come down for lunch and enjoy entertainment by the local kids in Montrose! For a full list of our entertainment schedule, please log onto www.montroseoktoberfest.com.

Once again we will be serving traditional German beer and of course we will also have Budweiser, Bud Light and Shock Top. The German beers on tap will be Spaten Münchner Hell, Karl Strauss Oktoberfest and Beck’s Oktoberfest. Spaten Münchner Hell is a classic German premium lager. It is a bottom fermented Munchner lager and is a supremely well-balanced blend between the sweetness of the malts and the bitterness of the hops making it easy to drink and quite enjoyable. It is light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Oktoberfest, Karl Strauss’ fall seasonal, is brewed using Vienna and Munich malts that produce the deep golden color, nutty undertones, and toasted malt flavors characteristic of this renowned Bavarian beer style. Perle hops are imported directly from the Hallertau region of Germany to give the beer a smooth balanced finish. Beck’s Oktoberfest is a seasonal specialty and brewed in limited quantities. Beck’s brewmasters create the distinctive, malty-sweet, amber-colored brew by using only top grade barley, hand-selected hops, fresh glacier water and Beck’s exclusive strain of yeast that has been cultured and cultivated for generations. Beck’s Oktoberfest is brewed in Bremen, Germany, and is made in accordance with the reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law of 1516. It is brewed caramel in color with a rich, full head. Beck’s Oktoberfest perfectly complements traditional German foods such as sausage and bratwurst.

And what better way to enjoy your beer than with a traditional Bavarian sausage made by Montrose’s own Schreiner’s Fine Sausages! We will also be serving a traditional German potato salad to complete your German experience. Besides the main stage on Ocean View we also have three other stages at the event featuring many local bands and acts as well as other bands from the Southern California area. FM Radio, Bobby Stevens and the Gypsy Boys, Northern Strangers and the German American Brass Band will headline each of our stages and close out the night for us.

So please join us at noon on Saturday, Oct. 4 to help us kick off the Oktoberfest celebration! Oktoberfest has been in Montrose for 37 years and has become a family tradition. We are one of the few Oktoberfest celebrations in Southern California and one of the largest. This is an event that the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce puts on not only for the community but also to bring people into the area who are not familiar with the wonderful town of Montrose.

So, plan to come out and support the chamber and all the local businesses in Montrose.
