After two games – and two wins – against tough Burbank teams, the Falcons take on Glendale and Hoover next as they try and remain undefeated.

Another week, another win against a team that was supposed to give the Falcons trouble. The Crescenta Valley High School football team continued to march through its season with ease, beating up on the Burbank Bulldogs Oct. 3 at Burroughs High School.
The 24-10 win was accomplished mostly on the defensive front, as the Falcons again showed they’re not just about offense. They intercepted Burbank quarterback Ryan Meredith three times, sacked him four times and held five different rushers to a total of just 36 yards.
Meredith threw the ball 43 times for 251 yards, a bit of overkill considering Burbank’s game plan this season had been to run the ball, though that clearly didn’t happen against the Falcons. Jordan LoBianco picked off Meredith in the fourth quarter and returned the ball for a touchdown, putting the game away. The other interceptions came from Dacota Cummins and Bostin Lakin.
The Falcons are now 5-0, 2-0 in the Pacific League. Burbank dropped to 3-2 overall, 1-1 in league. The CIF has ranked CV fifth in the new Southeast Division Poll, and Burbank is now outside of the top 10.
Offensively, it wasn’t the best game for CV, which entered this month averaging 45 points per contest. The offense scored just 17 last week. Quarterback Brian Gadsby was 12-for-25, 173 yards passing with no touchdowns and one interception. Lakin led the receiving corps with four catches for 52 yards.
Then again, the passing game doesn’t need to be great every week if Jonathan Jun is going to play like he has for the last two games. After a 200-yard rushing performance against Burroughs in Week 4, Jun ran for 159 yards vs. Burbank, scoring twice in the first half.
The game was in stark contrast to last year, when CV won an overtime thriller 48-47 on its homecoming game.
On Friday, the Falcons will play a road game at Moyse Field when they take on the Glendale Nitros, who are coming off a historic win last week as they beat Arcadia for the first time since 1991. The Nitros are 2-3 overall, 1-1 in league.
The Falcons suffered one of their worst losses in recent memory two years ago when Glendale won a dramatic 20-17 game which ended CV’s playoff hopes. The Falcons righted the ship last year, beating Glendale 27-7.
The Nitros may prove to be a tough one as the Falcons try for a 6-0 start, but the numbers are pretty overwhelming in favor of CV. The Falcons have scored 210 points this season and given up just 70. Glendale has scored 70 and given up 87.
The Falcons’ next biggest game appears to be against Muir (2-0 in league) two weeks from now. After Glendale, it’s Hoover, which is 0-2 and coming off a 47-0 loss against Pasadena last week. Crescenta Valley could very well be 7-0 after Hoover, and the Muir game could decide who wins league.
Of course, Coach Paul Schilling and his staff won’t be talking about any of this with their players when they know anything can happen if they’re not careful.
