Two in runoff for
Assembly
The top Democrat and  Republican in the race Tuesday for the 43rd Assembly District finished in almost a dead heat.
The vote was to choose a successor for former Assemblyman Paul Krekorian, now Los Angeles city councilmember.
Top vote getter was Republican Sunder Ramani, who received 10,403 votes, for 31.79%. He was the only Republican on the ballot.
Democrat attorney Mike Gatto received 10,584 votes, for 32.34%.
Two other Democrats on the ballot, Nayiri Nahabedian and Chahe Keuroghelian, received 7,298 votes and 4,444 respectively.
Gatto and Ramani will face each other in a runoff June 8, on which date an election will also be held for a full term in the 43rd. The special election term runs through December.
Total vote Tuesday was 32,912, or 16.35%, with a registration of 201,352. The largest portion of the vote was by mail, 18,989.
Gatto, a native of Los Angeles, formerly served as district director for Congressman Brad Sherman. He holds a degree in history from UCLA, and worked in the Glendale Sears auto department while putting himself through school.
Ramani, a native of India, came to Glendale at the age of 7. He is a Hoover High School graduate. He is a business consultant and a national board member for the Federation of Independent Businesses.

City tinkers with
sports fees
The city is adjusting fees for use of sports complexes in order to maximize income and to increase the use of the facilities.
The new numbers will be in place May 1, a year after a citywide debate over the existing fee structure.
The community services and parks commission will be decreasing some of the fees charged for use of baseball diamonds to try to increase business. The soccer fields are at maximum use and will remain at the current rates.
The city will also look at corporate advertising, initially at the Sports Center and the Skateboard Park, and private rentals at the skate park during available hours.
