As the summer months approach, the Crescenta Valley Water District will have to concern itself with customers not conserving as much water as last year, said general manager Dennis Erdman at the District board meeting on Tuesday.
Erdman said CVWD was given allocations from Foothill Municipal and Metropolitan Water District from July 1, 2009 to June 30 of this year. The District is on track to meet or even stay below the target of those allocations, but if this summer is warmer than last, as Erdman seems to think, conservation could be a problem.
We need to get that message to our customers that we’re doing the best job that we can to produce local ground water to the maximum extent, but still seek local cooperation in terms of keeping the overall [conservation] under control,” Erdman said.
Erdman continued, “If this summer turns out to be a scorcher with long periods of triple digits, then I think we’re going to see our customers revert to their old habits, and water usage will go up, so it’s going to take a concerted effort to keep that under control.”
