Claessens Voted onto CVWD Board
In a special public meeting on Nov. 5, the Crescenta Valley Water District (CVWD) board of directors interviewed four prospective candidates for the vacancy left by the resignation of director Kathy Ross. Director Ross will move to the Division 5 Foothill Municipal Water District board of directors seat on Dec. 5.
The CVWD board selected Michael Claessens as the new director. Claessens is a longtime resident of the community with ties to CV Town Council, CERT and CV ready. He will be sworn in at the Dec. 8 board meeting.
MVSNA Invites All to Tonight’s Meeting
The community is invited to the annual meeting of the Montrose/Verdugo City/Sparr Heights Neighborhood Association (MVSNA) at Sparr Heights Community Center tonight, Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Guest speaker is Lorna Vartanian, chairperson for the Historical Preservation Commission. In addition to local neighborhood issues, the discussion will also cover the potential for Sparr Heights to become one of Glendale’s historic districts.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Afternoon
There will be an “open gate” event on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 16 at Rosemont Preserve. This is a chance to visit the preserve and wander the trail while enjoying the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers, bring your camera to capture the late afternoon light.
The gate will be open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve committee members will answer questions and show this community resource.
The preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. Wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.
This event is free to the public, all ages, no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Free Electronic Waste Recycling Collection Event
On Saturday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., an electronic waste recycling collecting is taking place in the parking lot of First Baptist Church La Crescenta.
Acceptable materials include CRT (old, large TVs and monitors), LCD TVs and monitors, plasma TVs, PCs, laptops, keyboards, mouse, hard drives, personal electronic devices (i.e. iPad, Galaxy tab, Amazon Kindle), cellphones, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines, A/V equipment, projectors, CD/DVD players, CD/DVD/floppy disks, car batteries. Also household appliances such as microwaves, washers, dryers, ovens, refrigerators, etc. will be accepted. No florescent light bulbs or alkaline batteries will be accepted.
Everything will be processed by the e-waste center according to the government requirements. Any incentive money will be used for the church’s food bank.

Radio La Crescenta Topic of Historical Society
This month’s program of the Historical Society of Crescenta Valley is on Monday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living-La Crescenta. All are welcome at no charge. The topic is “Radio La Crescenta: Frederick and Formosa Robinson and KGFH.”
Radio La Crescenta? Once upon a time La Crescenta had its own commercial broadcasting station KGFH. Local resident, scenic artist, and electromechanical genius Frederick Robinson, assisted by his wife, former opera singer Formosa, started it in 1927, later moving it to Glendale.
Center for Spiritual Living-La Crescenta is located at 4845 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta at the corner of Dunsmore and Santa Carlotta avenues.
