The film is a warm up to World AIDS Day on Dec. 1. CVUMC’s Pastor Steve Poteete Marshall is on the AIDS Task Force of the California Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has served as spiritual director of the Strength For the Journey Camp for people with HIV and AIDS for two decades. Pastor Steve has gathered a panel for discussion after the movie. Cody Whitewolf, speaker and advocate for Native Americans living with HIV /AIDS, may also be on hand.

TURPIN PAINTINGS AT PENELOPE’S
Artist Peterfield Turpin has over 40 oil and watercolor paintings on display at Penelope’s Cafe-Books-Gallery in La Cañada Flintridge through December.
Turpin attended Dublin School, Choate School and Rhode Island School of Design where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in illustration. An accomplished commercial artist on both the east and west coasts, Turpin belongs to the Verdugo Hills Art Association, Businessmen’s Art Institute and the Glendale Art Association. Since leaving the commercial art world, he has devoted himself to painting in both watercolor and oil.

GAMC JOINT PAIN LECTURE OFFERED
Glendale Adventist Medical Center will offer a joint pain lecture and dinner today, Thursday, Nov. 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Oakmont Country Club. CALTECH GUITAR PRESENTS ELGART PERFORMANCE
The Caltech Guitar Dept. and Matthew Elgart will present a concert of music in Dabney Lounge on Nov. 15 at 7 pm. Special guest artist is Nicholas Barrett. Featured music will include compositions by Bach, Satie, Villa-Lobos, Klein and others.

CALTECH-OCCIDENTAL PRESENTS FALL CONCERTS
The Caltech-Occidental Symphony presents its fall concerts on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Thorne Hall at Occidental College and on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 3:30 p.m. in Ramo Auditorium at Caltech. Both concerts will have the same program.
Featured guest soloist is noted oboe pedagogue Catherine Del Russo.
The Caltech-Occidental Symphony is composed of students from Caltech, staff from JPL, students from nearby Occidental College, and members of the community. Its director, Allen Robert Gross, begins his 32nd year as conductor of the orchestra. Gross is also Music director and conductor of Orchestra Santa Monica.
The Caltech-Occidental concert band, directed by William Bing, presents its fall concert series. It will perform on Friday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. in Caltech Ramo Auditorium, featuring guest conductor Sharon Lavery, co-conductor of the USC Thornton wind ensemble. Also performing will be the Blair High School concert band directed by Michael Birnbryer.
The second concert takes place on Sunday, Nov. 23 3:30 p.m. in Thorne Hall at Occidental College. This concert will also feature the Caltech-Occidental concert band, with guest conductor Sharon Lavery, as well as the Loma Linda Academy wind symphony, directed by Giovanni Santos.

LEARN FARSI AT THE YMCA

SING WITH THE TOWNE SINGERS
Those who love to sing are invited to join the Towne Singers, a non-audition choir. Male voices in particular are needed, but all are welcome to join this family of musicians. BLOOMIN’ SQUARES SQUARE DANCE CLASS

NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)3 organization, so donations are tax deductible. Arrangements can be made to pick up large donations. BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m.  This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
