Holiday Blitz

For just about everyone, the holidays are an extremely busy time. For the Goldsworthys it’s no different. Celebrations abound and you don’t want to miss any of them.

Take last Thursday for example. I was invited to a fantastic soiree at the home of Dr. Armina and Vartan Gharpetian. Their exquisite home in Glendale is beautiful having been completely refurbished some years ago. I saw so many familiar faces at their event; it was fun to catch up. But too soon I put my coat back on to head over to the La Cañada Thursday Club for the sheriff’s annual holiday party. Steve was already there and I, armed with playing chips, tried my luck at the tables that were brought in for the evening, hoping to win some raffle tickets for fabulous prizes. Though I didn’t come home with a big screen TV, it was definitely time well spent.

Saturday evening was the Montrose Search & Rescue Team party and, looking ahead to Monday, there were three – three! – parties I wanted to attend. In preparation, I made my way on Saturday morning to see Bethany Reynolds at Salon Andalucia on Foothill across from the Shell station and OSH. Bethany is an expert stylist, a hair colorist extraordinaire (not that I need one), and has been working on my hair for years having inherited me as a client from her mom when she moved to Florida.

Stepping into Salon Andalucia brings to mind several thoughts – the similarity to Truvy’s beauty parlor in “Steel Magnolias” where everyone is comfortable and talking to one another while at the same time being impressed with the cleanliness of the salon and the professionalism of the staff who greets you and offers you something to drink.

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been going to Salon Andalucia for so many years, but I can almost feel a weight being lifted off me when I cross the threshold. I am one of those ladies who love being pampered – whether it’s a manicure and pedicure at Amy’s Nail Place, or a wash and cut at Salon Andalucia – the invitation to being taken care of is so welcome.

Once Bethany was done with the “beautification process,” I felt ready to take on Saturday evening as well as Monday’s events – heading to Glendale at Golden Road Brewery for Congressman Schiff’s holiday mix and mingle, then to CV Alliance’s party (food provided by Etc Gourmet Kitchen – delicious!) then to Thee Elbow Room on Honolulu Avenue for a “holiday hops” fundraiser poured by members of Glendale Arts. (Kudos to Glendale City Councilmember Paula Devine who also made it to each of these Monday events.) Without a doubt, it was a busy night but there was not one event that I would have missed – I only wish there had been more time to have spent at each.

And looking over last week’s paper, there was so much more to do! Casa Adobe de San Rafael held open houses and its Fiesta de las Luminarias last weekend, Crescenta Valley instrumental music hosted its winter concert on Friday night and two local churches had special events. Like you, I’ll just have to find out all about them by reading the CV Weekly.
