The Crescenta Valley Town Council meeting installed new members and officers while also honoring departing members during its Dec. 18 meeting held in the La Crescenta library.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich helped install the new council for 2015. It will consist of Robbyn Battles as president, Harry Leon as vice president, Cheryl Davis as corresponding secretary, Leslie Dickson as recording secretary and Krista Smiley as treasurer.
Danette Erickson, who has served on the council since 1995, will be departing this year. She received several certificates of recognition, including one on behalf of Assemblymember Mike Gatto and one from vice president of the CV Chamber of Commerce Aram Ordubegian.
“I feel honored,” said Erickson. “I feel happy to have served for this many years and I’m glad to be going off and getting involved in other organizations as well.” Erickson added that she plans to remain active in the community.
“We appreciate the history Danette created for us and we appreciate all the things she’s done,” Battles said.
Other members who were honored included councilmember Robert Thomas, who has served for the past nine years, and councilmember Frank Beyt, who served for seven years. In his acceptance speech, Beyt told the community that it should be upset about the possible construction of the 710 Freeway tunnel.
The Crescenta Valley Youth Town Council was also on hand to deliver the annual Spirit Award, which is given each year to the family that has the best holiday display of Christmas decorations and lighting. This year two awards were given – one to the Wurst family and the other to the Galvin family. The two families live across the street from each other in the 3000 block of Paraiso Way in La Crescenta. Next year, the council plans to look at more houses and to have more categories for judging.
During next month’s town council meeting, the Crescenta Valley High School varsity football team will be honored for winning the CIF championship.
The next CV Town Council meeting will be held on Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.
