NEWS FROM THE CVTC » ROBBYN BATTLES

Happy New Year from the CV Town Council! We start 2015 off with a fantastic guest for our Jan. 15 general meeting. The 2014 CIF champion Crescenta Valley varsity football team, along with their coaches, will make an appearance to be recognized for their amazing winning season. The council would like to invite the public to join us in celebrating their historic win. Our meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library community room (2809 Foothill Blvd.). It’s a school night, so the team is at the top of the agenda.

The council to-do list for the year is already pretty lengthy. We have been asked to hear from S.A.F.E regarding the impact the high-speed rail will have on our neighboring communities to the west. We are anticipating the release of the 710 EIR, expected in February. Council for years has sent letters opposing the 710 tunnel. We have already posted the 2015 scholarship application, so if you have high school seniors make sure you direct them to our website. Council will also be looking at long-term goals to improve the look of Foothill Boulevard. Expect lots of community outreach on this subject.

Speaking of Foothill Boulevard, our Land Use committee is already in full swing. Land Use is in the beginning stages of working through the Foothill CSD to help with updates and corrections with county planning taking the lead. As changes and revisions are recommended there will be plenty of outreach and workshops for the community. Land Use will also be working with several other organizations in the community including the chamber.  If you are not aware what the Foothill CSD is the entire document can be found on the council website under Land Use. This is a document business and property owners in the unincorporated area should familiarize themselves with, in particular the signage section.

Speaking of signage along the boulevard, the last action council took in 2014 was a letter, available for viewing on our council website under Council documents, to Supervisor Antonovich requesting code enforcement. A county survey along Foothill will also take place to help with enforcement, education and continued compliance. This should lead to the elimination of the flashing neon signs and banners you currently see along Foothill.

A few miscellaneous items. On Saturday, Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. we will have our first Crescenta Commons cleanup. Come pull a few weeds and have a cup of coffee with us. Don’t worry; the donor tiles are in the home stretch and installation will begin by the end of January. On Feb. 22 at 9 a.m., the CV Youth Council is putting on their entrepreneurial hats and will be hosting their first entrepreneurial fair at the farmers market. What a great way for our youth to learn how to set up their own business and sell their own product! Participants can download the application off our council website. Seventh through 12th graders are encouraged to participate.

One last item. If you would like to help support our scholarships, beautification projects or council we have now added a secure donate link to our website.

Hope to see you all at tonight, Jan. 15, at our general council meeting.
