March 23, 1939 – Jan. 16, 2015
We are sad to announce the passing of Harriet Trousdale on Friday, Jan. 16 at the age of 75. One frequently hears of people fighting long protracted battles with cancer. Harriet’s battle with this disease was a short viscous firefight. She was surrounded by friends and family at her passing in her home.
Harriet was born in Glendale on March 23, 1939 to Harold and Edna Kreisel. She graduated Glendale High School and went on to earn a BA at Glendale College in 1962.
Harriet married Arthur Trousdale in 1959 and moved to La Crescenta in 1963 where she lived the rest of her life. She was widowed in 1985 when she lost Art to cancer and, 15 years later in 2000, found love again and married Joe Mandoky.
Harriet taught middle school for 17 years, finishing her long tenure at Roosevelt Middle School in Glendale. She was active in PTA, square dancing, Kiwanis Club and Mt. Olive Church. She loved to travel, garden and help people.
What mattered most to Harriet was not her financial statements, not her property, not her accomplishments; what mattered most to her were those she loved and who loved her.
She is survived by husband Joe Mandoky; children Gary Trousdale, Don Trousdale and his wife Darlene, Steve Trousdale and his wife Jennifer; step-daughter Angel and her husband Eddie; grandchildren Nathan, Calvin, Joel, Matthew, Jessica, Isabella, Alex; and great-grandchildren Joel Jr., Nia and August.
An informal remembrance and viewing will be held for Harriet at Crippen Mortuary, 2900 Honolulu Ave, La Crescenta on Friday, Jan. 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Formal services shall be held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 3561 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for a charitable donation to be made in Harriet’s name to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church or to the charity of their choice.
