General Secretary of YMCA Korea to visit Foothills
Kilku Kim, general secretary of the YMCA, Korea is visiting the community through Feb. 14. He will be collaborating with the YMCA of the Foothills and community leaders to create student and staff exchanges. A meet-and-greet for him is being held tonight, Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. at New Moon restaurant in Montrose.
During his stay, Kim will be meeting with, among others, CEO YMCA of the Foothills Tyler Wright, LASD Captain Bill Song, GUSD Superintendent Dr. Richard Sheehan, LCUSD Superintendent Wendy Sinnette, CV Town Council President Robbyn Battles and La Cañada City Mayor Mike Davitt.
Workday Planned for Preserve
The next restoration day at the Rosemont Preserve is this Saturday, Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be invasive plant removal along with some trail maintenance and watering and weeding newly planted trees and plants.
The Preserve is located in La Crescenta at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. Parking is available at Two Strike Park at 5107 Rosemont Ave., two blocks south of the Preserve.
Those who plan to attend should wear sturdy shoes, comfortable work clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Those who have shovels, spades, loppers, hatchets, clippers are asked to bring them. Other tools and equipment will be available.
Rain cancels the workday.
Sadler Guest of Historical Society
The Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley will next meet on Monday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living in La Crescenta.
HSCV President Jo Anne Sadler will be speaking about her recently published book, “Pioneer Days in the Crescenta Valley.” She will also describe her research methodology and the twists and turns that research follows. All are invited for another fascinating look into the valley’s past.
Center for Spiritual Living is located at 4845 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta.
Arbor Day Celebration
Glendale Beautiful and the City of Glendale Community Services and Parks invite all to the 2015 Arbor Day event Tuesday, March 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at Casa Adobe de San Rafael. Light refreshments. Certificates will be given to those who donate trees for the city’s parks and library grounds.
