QUINTON BEMILLER GUEST
OF VHAA

The Friday, May 7 meeting of the Verdugo Hills Art Association will feature returning guest artist Quinton Bemiller. Bemiller is a painter, educator and a gallery director and currently has his mural, “Hahamongna” on display at the Armory Center for the Arts, and a solo exhibition at the Los Angeles International Airport through September 2010. Bemiller teaches Art History at Chaffey College and leads art tours of galleries, museums and studios in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. On Friday he will present a slide lecture highlighting some of the most notable artists from the Southern California region. Bemiller will donate one of his recent paintings to be raffled at the meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Citibank Community Room, 2350 Honolulu Ave. in Montrose. It is open to the public for a $5 donation.

TEA PLANNED, BENEFITS LOCAL CHARITIES

WOMEN’S CONTRIBUTIONS SUBJECT OF MEETING
On Saturday, May 8 at 1:00 p.m. the Little Landers Historical Society will present “Women’s Contributions during World War I and World War II.” Guest speaker is Deborah McIntosh, owner and founder of History Through the Eyes of Women.
This is a free program. Everyone is welcome.

PUPPETRY FESTIVAL COMING TO ARTS CENTER
McGroarty Arts Center is gearing up for its 7th Annual Celebrate Puppetry Festival to take place on Saturday, June 5 from 4 to 9 p.m. The day provides an opportunity for children of all ages to nurture their imaginations and playfulness. In addition to the free festival, children ages 6-12 and their families are welcome to attend hands-on workshops on three Sunday afternoons (May 16, 23 and 30 from 1-3 p.m.) leading up to the event. The “Make a Shadow Character” workshop with Maria Bodmann on May 16 and 30 teaches the ancient tradition of storytelling using figures and animals which are brought to life in front of an illuminated screen. HIGH SCHOOL REUNIONS
The Crescenta Valley High School class of 1990 is holding its 20-year reunion on Saturday, May 29 at the Glendale Hilton beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $99 each and available through www.GreatReunions.com.

The Crescenta Valley High School class of 2000 is having its 10-year reunion on July 17. From 6:30 to 10 p.m. there will be a hosted bar, reception buffet and awesome door prizes. MOMS CLUB TO HOST PEDIATRIC DENTIST
Mom’s Club of the Foothills, a support group for stay-at-home mothers will hold it’s monthly meeting May 13 at 10am. The topic this month is pediatric dentistry.

VHH OFFERS BABYSITTING CLASSES FOR YOUTH
The Verdugo Hills Hospital Beginnings Family Education Program offers babysitting classes designed for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 15. The babysitting class is an interactive course that teaches participants valuable skills, including infant/child CPR, basic first aid, home/auto safety, accident prevention, telephone skills, safety tips, when to call 911, poison control, fire/earthquake plans and other helpful childcare advice. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a babysitting course completion certificate.
Classes are offered at VHH, located at 1812 Verdugo Blvd. in the Council Room located on the fourth floor).

NOON CONCERTS OPEN TO PUBLIC
Glendale Noon Concerts is a free admission concert series taking place every first and third Wednesday from 12:10-12:40 p.m. in the newly restored chapel and sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Glendale (downtown at Louise & Wilson, no religious affiliation). All are invited to relax during their lunch hour with live music. Light lunch for purchase by Angela’s Bistro available for $6.
