Adam Wallace, 18, began his scouting adventure at the age of 5 with Pack 326 in Sunland. In 2005, Adam transferred to Troop 509 to take advantage of the numerous activities and progressive leadership attitude. Since then, he has served as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Patrol Guide, Senior Patrol Leader and Junior Scoutmaster. Over the last several years, Adam has been on numerous Scout outings and events. His favorites were Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island, San Gabriel Peak Trail, San Juancito, and last summer spending 10 days on an 80-mile backpacking trip in the New Mexico Mountains at Philmont Scout Ranch.
Adam’s Eagle project consisted of planning and raising the funds to replace 300 feet of the 50-year-old foul ball fencing and fence poles at Tujunga Little League. He played on the Little League fields for eight years and was eager to give back.
During the project, he led 20 boys over several days and donated over 200 hours of volunteer service. The field is now enjoyed safely by hundreds of young baseball players and parents who come to the park each year.
Adam is currently a senior at Verdugo Hills High School where he is an honor student and member of the school’s Leadership program. He is the captain of the school’s varsity water polo team and he led the team to an undefeated season this year
Adam is also the captain of the school’s varsity swim team and he holds eight school records, two MVP titles and received the Silver Award in the backstroke event at the Los Angeles City Sectional Championships at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
An aspiring architect, Adam has taken numerous advanced placement courses in this field of study. Last year he was asked by the school principal to design a new 65,000 sq ft. gym and indoor swim stadium to replace the 60-year-old facility. Adam spent hundreds of hours on the award-winning project. It is being considered by the L.A. Unified School District board for a future project.
Adam is a certified lifeguard and worked at Pyramid Lake last summer where he had numerous water-related rescues and saved several lives. He works part time at the Tujunga YMCA as a lifeguard and swim instructor. Adam is planning to attend Cal State University Northridge in the fall.

Julian Drooks Shur of Glendale started his 10-year scouting career in Cub Scout Pack 304 at Fremont Elementary School and advanced through the ranks of Cub Scouts, earning all 20 Webelos activity badges, the Arrow of Light Award and bridged over to Boy Scout Troop 509 in March 2004.
While in Troop 509 Julian held the leadership positions of Patrol Leader for the Troop and Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader at Camporee. Currently Julian is an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
His participation in outdoor activities was varied and included rock climbing at Joshua Tree and Vasquez Rocks, three river rafting trips on the Kern River, kayaking at Channel Islands National Park, three biking trips to Mt. Piños, Camporee weekends at Camp Trask and the Santa Fe Dam, local conservation projects, Camp Cherry Valley Summer Camp and the National Youth Leadership Training Conference in 2008. Julian has also assisted many other Scouts in their Eagle projects over the last seven years.
Wilderness Survival and Emergency Preparedness, earned at Cherry Valley, were his favorite merit badges.
For his Eagle Leadership Service Project, Julian led Scouts, family members and friends in making improvements to the playground at John C. Fremont Elementary School. One of the handball walls had a mural of the solar system, which was faded with peeling paint and needed to be restored, along with two alphabet “caterpillars” on the playground. Each was sanded, primed and repainted. The stencils that Julian made were used to ensure the new alphabet was identical to the previous one.
Funding was provided by a grant from Fremont’s Foundation, PAC, after acceptance of Julian’s presentation to the board members. Additionally several hours were spent gardening and cleaning up the flowerbeds on campus, all in over 100 degree weather.
Julian is a junior at Crescenta Valley High School where he is a member of the Falkon Robotics team. He participates in honors classes and performs in CV Theater Arts productions. He traveled to London with his drama class in 2008. At age 16, he earned a black belt in Ju-jitsu and continues his weekly volunteer work as a teaching assistant to Sensei Kelly Miller at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA. He also practices guitar and recently started a business designing and building electric guitar effect pedals.
He is looking forward to studying electrical engineering in college and possibly a career at JPL.
