Although the official Feb. 22 celebration was rained out, the birthday cake created for the 102nd birthday of Montrose by Montrose Bakery owner Henry Baeza was well received by those in downtown Montrose who were offered a slice as they walked by the bakery.

Another disappointing effect from the rainy day was the lack of consumption of the roasted pig prepared in front of Zeke’s Smokehouse.

But hope is on the horizon. On March 22, the Montrose Founders Day Awards will be distributed to deserving local people and businesses and who knows? Maybe there will be another chance to try a piece of a Montrose Bakery cake.
