The members of the speech and debate team at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy worked at the Earth Fair at St. Philip the Apostle School in Pasadena on April 22 as part of their community service. They helped set up the fair, pass out reusable grocery bags and guide the kindergarten through sixth grade students through the various fair activities.
All attendees learned how to make eco-friendly household cleaners, compost and plant seeds, and discovered the advantages of solar and wind power. They also learned how to use recyclable materials to make twig books and bookmarks, and how trash affects life at sea.
“The girls really enjoyed helping the kids through each of the stations, but they themselves also learned a lot about the environment,” said team coach Leilani McHugh.
