On Wednesday, April 23 St. James and Holy Redeemer students met at Holy Redeemer for a get to know one another day. The student populations will be merged for the 2010-11 school year that begins on Sept 1. St. James will teach elementary grades kindergarten through four and Holy Redeemer will become the middle school for the fifth through eighth grades.
The students at both schools enjoyed mass together in the morning and then watched a series of skits about God creating the world, Adam and Eve and the story of Moses. The students then shared recess so they could talk.
Buff Buddies of La Cañada joined the students and had them participate in team building games, such as capture the flag. The younger students returned to class and enjoyed a movie together.
After the games and movie, all the students ate hot dogs and were able to just sit and hang out.
Organizers said that they felt the meet-and-greet was a big success though in the past, some parents have felt this merging of campuses was not the best idea. The students appeared to be unaware of any concern as they grew friendly with their new classmates.
