Hi, CV!

Bloomington, Ind. (AP) – Authorities have filed preliminary murder charges against a man in the death of an Indiana University student whose body was found in a rural area not long after she was reported missing.

State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil says 49-year-old Daniel E. Messel of Bloomington was arrested Friday in the death of 22-year-old IU senior Hannah N. Wilson. Police have not disclosed a possible motive or said whether Messel and Wilson knew one another. He is being held at the Brown County Jail.

The HeraldTimes reports that the Fishers, Indiana woman’s body was found Friday afternoon near Lake Lemon in a rural area of Brown County. That county is just east of Monroe County, where IU’s campus is located.

What the fox8.com website didn’t report was that she was very drunk the night she went missing, during Little 500 Weekend, the biggest thing on IU’s campus especially if you’re in a sorority and fraternity as she was. Her friends thought they were protecting her when they put her in a car service or taxi to get her home safely. Instead she was killed. It’s incredibly sad and tragic.

So here’s a new reminder for your kids as they head off for college: don’t put anyone in a taxi alone.

Here are two familiar reminders again. Don’t drink and don’t get wasted.

While driving my daughter’s friends home, one mentioned a girl’s drink was laced at a party and she passed out. I asked if anyone called the paramedics and she didn’t know. I took the time to tell them about Teen 911 Immunity. You can call for help, give information and directions, wait for help to arrive, talk to them and identify yourself as the caller, and you won’t get in trouble if you’re not sober … until your parents find out.

We have to learn how to help each other so no parent sends their child off to school and never sees them again.

Thank you to USC-VHH and Glendale Healthy Kids for including us in this weekend’s community health fair. Fun times!
