Carly Spina, a senior at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, will be the recipient of a special scholarship that will be presented to her by the Italian Catholic Federation Branch 374 at St. Bede the Venerable Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 19 at 6 p.m.
Spina plans to attend UC Santa Barbara majoring in biopsychology upon graduation from high school. She earned the ICF scholarship due to her academic performance and the many honors she received while a student at Sacred Heart. Among the honors received were from the National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, and honors at entrance at UC Santa Barbara. She was a four-year honor roll student at Flintridge.
Her hobbies include involvement in musical theatre and other aspects of the performing arts. She has been involved in 12 productions since the fifth grade, and has had vocal coaching and attended improvisation workshops and theatre classes. In addition, she is a part of the school’s Comedy Sportz team, where she has participated in competitive improvisational comedy.
Spina is interested in pursuing a career working with children with special needs having been introduced to special children through the Pediatric Therapy Network specializing in occupational therapy.
