There are very few things can get a slumbering community up in the morning – especially as early as 7:30 a.m. on a Sunday. However, Boy Scout troop 317 managed to wake up the community with their second annual pancake breakfast.

The pancake breakfast is the main fundraiser for Troop 317. The money goes to replenish camping supplies and fees in order to get into camp sites.

Sunday’s pancake breakfast was held at Healy Hall at Holy Redeemer where the Boy Scouts made pancakes and sausages, handed out juice and coffee, and even cleaned the tables. Parents were there to supervise.

Healy Hall was set up with around 5 a.m. with big, long tables to encourage communal eating. Scoutmaster Dan Molina is committed to not only encouraging his troop to engage with the community, but for the community itself to grow closer. Molina sees the pancake breakfast as a way for everyone to “learn to care for the community.” The Sunday morning breakfast saw people talking to their neighbors and Boy Scouts talking to their diners.

Though it’s only the second year of the event, Molina said he was happy to see new and as well as familiar faces at the pancake breakfast.
