It was an adrenaline-charged adventure for the Scouts of Troop 303 who worked in teams throughout the weekend maneuvering their kayaks down the “Big Daddy Rapid” of Kern River. The boys enjoyed two nights of camping at Frandy Campsite sleeping under the stars, listening to the sounds of frogs, crickets and the roar of the river. The trip taught the boys essential skills of scouting and leadership.
Throughout the weekend the boys worked in their Cobra, Moose and Shark patrols from planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning and maintaining their campsites.
Their next adventure is a 10-mile hike and intro to backpacking experience. Those interested in joining Troop 303 are invited to St. James the Less on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. For more information, email scoutmaster@troop303.org.
