Residents warned
of rattlers in area
Roger Young of The Crescenta Valley Fire Safe Council issued a warning regarding the arrival of rattlesnakes with the warm weather. Young encountered a baby rattlesnake in his front yard on Hopeton Drive last week. He reminds residents, especially those near hillsides, to think about kids and pets left alone in yards. Residents in the unincorporated area of the foothills who need assistance in removing snakes from their property can contact the L.A. County Fire Department at (626) 793-7176. Young added that a mountain lion was reportedly seen in Pickens Canyon two weeks ago.
Dog park subject
of meeting
A meeting regarding the installation of a dog park at Crescenta Valley Park is being held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27 at Crescenta Valley Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta. Hosted by the L.A. County Department of Parks & Recreation and Supervisor Michael Antonovich, the community meeting is designed to gather information from residents regarding the possibility of adding a dog park to the area. CVTC meeting tonight
The Crescenta Valley Town Council’s monthly meeting is tonight at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library Community Room. Items on the agenda include reports concerning public safty from CV Sheriff’s Station Capt. Dave Silversparre, CHP Officer Ming-Yang hsu and L.A. County Fire Stephanie English. Several CVTC scholarship recipients and their families will be attending as well.
GCC DANCE PRODUCTION
Dance Production 2010 will be presented Tuesday, May 25 through Sunday, May 30 in the Glendale Community College Dance Theatre.
Shows are at 8 p.m. on May 25, noon and 8 p.m. May 26 through 28, 8 p.m. on May 29 and 2 p.m. on May 30.
Admission is free and open to the public. No children under five admitted. Seating is limited and on a first come first served basis. Early arrival is advised. DNA bill passes House
Tuesday, the Katie Sepich Enhanced DNA Collection Act (H.R. 4614) introduced by Reps. Harry Teague (D-NM) Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Dave Reichert (R-WA) passed the House by a 357 to 32 vote. This bipartisan bill will make “Katie’s Law” the national standard, encouraging states to maximize the potential of forensic DNA to solve and prevent violent crimes by collecting a DNA sample upon arrest at the same time as fingerprints — for certain felony crimes.
