COURSES AVAILABLE ON RELIEVING FINANCIAL STRESS
When asked the question, “What concerns people the most?” most answered finances and the economy. Life Improvement Courses are offered on “Principles of Prosperity,” “How to Obtain Financial Security” and “Overcoming Financial Stress” at the Church of Scientology Mission of the Foothills.

These courses help empower a person with the knowledge to overcome financial stress to prosper in life. Each course is $50, is done at the individual’s own pace and timing is flexible. A stress-free financial future can be attained and having the right knowledge can make all the difference.

These are just a few of the life improvement courses offered. Others available address various subjects including relationships, goals and purposes and children as well as ethics and survival. The classes are open Monday-Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

LIBRARY, ARTS & CULTURE PERFORMANCE SERIES
New and established artists and performance groups in diverse genres including classical, jazz, rock and world music will be part of the Library, Arts & Culture Performance Series.

The performances are on Fridays and begin at 7 p.m. at the Brand Library & Art Center. Performances will run 60 and 90 minutes without intermission and will be available to the general public, free of charge. Six of the performances are funded by the Urban Art Fund with the remainder supported by the Brand Associates.

12TH ANNUAL CERAMICS EXHIBITION AT MCGROARTY
The 12th Annual Ceramics Exhibition and Student Sale is being held at McGroarty Arts Center continues through Saturday, June 27. Admission is free. Viewing hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Center is closed Sundays.

The exhibition is curated by Ray Yocum and features Southern California artists Bobby Free, Jack Halpern, Heidi Kreitchet, CJ Jilek, Nikki Lewis, Katie Queen, Dino Sophia and Vincent Suez. Also featured are wares from Vietnam dating from the 15th century. These historical pots were excavated from the shipwreck Hoian. In addition, McGroarty students will also host a student ceramic sale. All ceramic work will be available for purchase.

In conjunction with the ceramics exhibition, McGroarty will be hosting other events including Timeless Tiles on Saturday, June 20, and will be participating in an Artist Studios Tour on Saturday, June 27. JUNE EVENTS AT FLINTRIDGE BOOKSTORE
During the month of June, Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse presents three young adult (YA) authors whose stories cross over to appeal to an adult audience.

Today, Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m., a booksigning is being held for Stephanie Hosford, author of “Bald, Fat & Crazy: How I Beat Cancer While Pregnant With One Daughter And Adopting Another.” Having a baby is a monumental, life-altering experience, so is adopting a child; being diagnosed with cancer comes with its own transformative, emotional and physical entanglements. Now imagine what it would be like to experience all three at once. Hosford didn’t have to imagine it, she lived it, and “Bald, Fat & Crazy” is her heartfelt and humorous memoir chronicling her unique circumstances.

On Saturday, June 20, at 4:30 PM, Catherine Linka signs “A Girl Undone.”

In her debut novel, “A Girl Called Fearless” (2014 winner of the Southern California Booksellers Association Award in Young Adult Fiction), a synthetic hormone in beef killed 50 million American women 10 years prior. ROCK AND ROLL ART AT FOREST LAWN MUSEUM
Forest Lawn Museum is hosting an upcoming panel discussion, Record Breakers: Artists Who Revolutionized Visual Music Culture, a celebration of its current exhibition on rock and roll art. Revolutions 2: The Art of Music features more than 175 works – in many cases for the first time – in the original form of mass produced art, including handmade illustrations, large-scale paintings, photographs and sculpture.

On Saturday, June 20 at 2 p.m., at Forest Lawn Museum the panel discussion Record Breakers: Artists Who Revolutionized Visual Music Culture, will bring together some of the biggest names to talk about the thought-provoking stories behind the art –album covers, posters, photographs, and more – that continues to influence today’s music scene. Eight award-winning artists and designers will discuss how such iconic works came together, such as: George Harrison’s breakout moment; posters for Jimi Hendrix Experience at Fillmore East, Woodstock, Prince; the monumental Legends of the Blues series; cover art ranging from The Who’s Tommy to KISS’ Rock and Roll Over to Black Sabbath’s Sabbath Bloody Sabbath; and even the Rolling Stones’ tongue logo.

Little Landers Historical Society will host the Randy Van Horne Singers at Bolton Hall for a special afternoon performance on June 27 at 2:30 p.m. The singing group has been performing and leading group caroling for a number of years for the Little Landers holiday party in December.

ORCHID AUCTION PLANNED
Hundreds of beautiful orchids will be on the block at the Orchid Society of Southern California’s Annual Orchid Auction. The auction will be held on Saturday, June 20 starting at 2 p.m. at the meeting hall of the First Christian Church, 221 S. Sixth Street, Burbank. Doors open at 1 p.m. for plant inspection and bidder registration; plant donations will be accepted after 12:30 p.m. The bidding should be over by 5 p.m.

A wide range of orchids will be available, with well-grown varieties of species and hybrids suitable for everyone from the orchid novice through the advanced collector.

NAWIC SGV ANNOUNCES MAGIC SUMMER CAMP
San Gabriel Valley chapter of National Assn. of Women in Construction is sponsoring MAGIC (Mentor A Girl In Construction) Camp. The camp provides a supportive and nurturing environment for high school girls (ninth through 12th grade) to explore and develop basic skills in the areas of carpentry, electrical and plumbing.

This free event helps girls develop a safety first attitude and builds self-confidence and self esteem for girls who tackle challenging projects, both individually and as a work team. It takes place at Pasadena City College Campus June 22-26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Lunch and snacks included. All registrations must be received by June 1.

RAPP SCREENING PLANNED
RAPP – Read And Practice Peacemaking – is presenting “The Corporation,” an insightful quick moving documentary that looks into the rise of the dominant institution of our times. Since corporations have been given the status of personhood by the Supreme Court, film makers set out to examine their psychological health. The outcome is an award winning film that includes interviews from insiders and critics.

“The Corporation” is over two hours and we want to savor it, so we are going to divide it into two parts. Part One is on Friday, June 26 and part two is on the following Friday, July 3. We will have conversation and refreshments afterwards on both nights.at 7:30 p.m. at Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church.

These will be the scenes at The Doctor’s House on July 18 at The Glendale Historical Society’s annual meeting that will include Glendale Art Association members painting en plein air on the grounds.

At 2 p.m., tea and scones will be served while members of the Historical Society gather. Following the business meeting, there will be tours of The Doctor’s House.

ANNUAL CITY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP PLANNED
The Fourth Annual Glendale City Golf Championship is set for Aug. 20 and Aug. 24. The Glendale Parks and Open Space Foundation, Scholl Canyon Golf Course, Oakmont Country Club, American Golf and The Local Trusted Choice Insurance Agents will host the annual championship to benefit the local parks and open space.

The first round will take place on Aug. 20 at the Scholl Canyon Golf Course in Glendale. There will be four flights. The low 16 in the championship flight and the low eight in the other three flights will advance to Oakmont Country Club on Aug. 24 to compete for the championship.

This is a very unique event with the first round at a par 60, 3,039-yard course and the second round at Oakmont Country Club that will play over 7,000 yards for the championship flight.

Although this is a city championship, golfers of all ages and abilities are welcome to come out and play to support The Glendale Parks and Open Space Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization.

TOURNAMENT TO BENEFIT CV SHERIFF SUPPORT GROUP
The Crescenta Valley Sheriff Support Group and the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to present the 2015 Crescenta Valley Sheriff Support Group Golf Classic on Aug. 17. This year’s event will be played at The La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. The host sponsor is the Caltech Employees Federal Credit Union.

NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.

All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)3 organization, so donations are tax deductible. Arrangements can be made to pick up large donations. BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The CrescentaCañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m.  This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.

The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
