News from CV Alliance

Hi, CV!

We hope you are settling in for another good, relaxing summer. You know there are plenty of free things to do in Los Angeles over the summer. Start “Googling” free concerts in L.A. or free movies in L.A. and you’ll get the gist. Today, I’m going to focus on four events that you’ll want to consider when planning summer fun.

The County of Los Angeles offer two great summer activities that you’ll want to enjoy.  You know it’s summer when Supervisor Antonovich runs the Beach Bus to Santa Monica. This is a great way to enjoy cooler weather without having to drive.  And many of the moms I know send their teens on the bus with friends to give them a chance to spread their wings like a true California (beach) teen. Tickets are $3.  Reserve your seat now through the link on the CV Town Council’s website, thecvcouncil.com.

For families with younger children, the parks department is going to show three summer movies at CV Park! Here’s the line-up: Monday, June 22 is “The Little Giants,” on July 13 is “Paddington” and on July 27 is “Tinker Bell and The Legend of the Neverbeast.” Movies are free and begin at sunset. A flyer with all the information is coming soon.

The Special Olympics World Summer Games come to L.A. July 25-Aug. 2.  Organizers want cheering crowds to fill the stands. So, except for the opening ceremony, it’s free to watch these athletes compete. So why not go? Visit la2015.org.

Finally, there’s Cruise Night with fireworks on Saturday, July 18 in Glendale along Brand Boulevard. There’s live music, too, and if you want to register your pre-1979 vehicle, you can. For information, visit glendaleca.gov.

Please make the most of your summer. GUSD school year starts on Aug. 10 and we all want to feel like there was a break in the stress, that we made some lasting family memories, and that we all had a chance to enjoy the fruits of our community.   Please let your kids spread their wings, but keep parenting.

Think Cat Dad instead of Tiger Mom; give yourself a break, too.
