Four new businesses joined the CV Chamber this month. Get to know these interesting local organizations.

The Lawrence Anthony Earth Organization (LAEO) is an internationally renowned conservation non-profit. Dr. Lawrence Anthony was best known for his rescue of the Baghdad Zoo at the beginning of the Iraq war.Barbara Wiseman co-founded the organization with Dr. Anthony in 2003 with the purpose of raising mankind’s awareness of our vital partnership for survival with the natural world. They have 19 chapters in 16 countries, including two large, four-star game preserves in South Africa, where they take small groups on educational safaris.

Their U.S. headquarters, at 3443 Ocean View Blvd. in Sparr Heights, is dedicated to educating industry, government and the broad public about how to safeguard the health of our waters, atmosphere and soil to create a better partnership between people and nature. The Electric Connection in Tujunga has been in business since 1979. Owner Kim Hopkins started off as a one-man show 35 years ago and today runs a company of almost 30 employees servicing the electrical needs of residences and businesses all over Los Angeles. They troubleshoot on small jobs and can handle big contracts for property management companies.

Danielle Soule, operations manager at The Electric Connection, said they joined the Chamber because they want to get involved with the community.

“We want to reach out to our neighbors,” she said. “We’re looking for ways to give back.”

Gal pals Jennifer Drew and Elizabeth Sockbeson, insurance agent and mortgage specialist respectively, were having lunch at Town Restaurant in Montrose recently when they decided, “We need to go into business together.” Shortly after, their Farmers Insurance agency at 2948½ Honolulu Ave. was born.

Drew wrote training materials and trained other agents at Farmers Insurance for 15 years, earning her the moniker “insurance guru.” Their offices offer insurance for home, auto, life, workers comp, health and more.  (888) 609-4424
