La Crescenta resident Gavin Traber, a sophomore molecular and cellular biology major at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas is among more than 1,200 university students included on the dean’s list for grades achieved during the spring 2015 semester.
The dean’s list is published each semester by Dr. Larry Long, university provost, honoring those who have achieved high scholarship. To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes.

Sarah Elaine Lowenthal of La Crescenta has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first-year and second-year college students.

Army and Navy Academy’s 104th commencement ceremony was held on Saturday, June 6. Diplomas were presented by Dr. Lisa Basista, dean of Academics, in the Saturday afternoon ceremony, along with special awards.
Graduates included Ian Kim of Shadow Hills who he is enrolling at Pepperdine University and Brandon Um of La Cañada who is enrolling at the University of California, Irvine.

Christine Martinez of Tujunga earned a Bachelor of Arts, political science, with a minor in women’s & gender studies at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Students participated in graduation exercises during the school’s commencement ceremony that was held on Sunday, May 11 in Spokane’s Veterans’ Memorial Arena.

A graduate of Crescenta Valley High School, Palacios was a sophomore at Macalester last spring.

The Georgia Institute of Technology presented degrees to approximately 2,700 undergraduate and graduate students during the Institute’s 249th commencement exercises on May 1 and May 2 at the McCamish Pavilion. Jessie Um of La Crescenta was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2015 semester at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. To make the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.5 GPA in the semester. Um is a graduate of Village Christian High School. She is the daughter of Binny and Christy Um.

Angela Gaignard from Sunland earned a spot on the spring 2015 president’s list at Southern Arkansas University. Gaignard is a senior athletic training major.

Walter A. Harris, son of George and Robin Harris of La Crescenta and a 2015 graduate of Maranatha High School in Pasadena, has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is an accredited college educating future Coast Guard officers. Admission to the Academy is highly competitive and less than 350 appointments are offered annually from a pool of over 2,200 applicants. Cadets receive a full tuition scholarship and monthly stipend for a five-year service commitment to the U.S. Coast Guard upon graduation. All graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are guaranteed a position of leadership as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard.

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Colin Neil of La Crescenta recently received a Master of Business Administration degree in management from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland during its 146th commencement ceremonies. FSU President Jonathan C. Gibralter conferred nearly 700 undergraduate and graduate degrees at this May commencement.
