On May 27 a traffic stop led Glendale police to a home in Sunland resulting in four arrests and the recovery of 16 pounds of methamphetamine that has an estimated street value of about $1.2 million according to Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department.

The Glendale police have been concentrating its efforts in patrolling the North Command, Crescenta Valley area, due to the recent rash of residential burglaries, said Lt. Ian Grimes.

While on patrol an officer noticed a suspicious looking vehicle on Lowell Avenue at Foothill Boulevard. The officer stopped the vehicle due to a traffic violation. During the course of an investigation he discovered the driver, later identified as Alejandro Diego Garcia, 32, of Norwalk had pictures of large quantities of drugs on his cellphone. With a continued investigation officers discovered the vehicle did not belong to Garcia. Joshua Marco Perez, 34, of Sunland was the vehicle’s registered owner. Perez was on parole for a weapons violation.

Police went to the Perez home. As police were attempting to verify Perez’s identity he assaulted the officers, Grimes said.

One officer suffered a knee injury and the other officer received minor scratches.

“There was another parolee, William Magana, 31, of Fontana  inside the residence as well as Claudia Sesena, 34, of Sunland and three children,” Grimes added.

The police searched the residence and discovered 16 pounds of methamphetamine valued at about $1.2 million.

Lorenz praised the officers for their actions adding that all the training they received on drug awareness is invaluable in these types of incidents.
