Crescenta Valley High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) rewarded its cadets with 27 national awards at its end of the year banquet held last weekend. The awards were given to students who excelled in certain areas.
The annual JROTC banquet was held at the Elks Lodge in Glendale on Saturday, May 22. The event was sponsored by the booster club of the AFJROTC. The event included dinner, last farewells from the seniors and the distribution of awards.

Among the 70 cadets in the corps more than one-third received awards. Each award recipient had the privilege of saluting Five Star General Smuche, who has an uncanny resemblance to a vulture/turkey, but according to Lt. Col. David Worley is an eagle. Award recipients were also able to choose from a variety of gift cards donated by the local community.

Brigadier General McCarly, left, with the cadet of the year and new director of cadet operations Cadet Master Seargeant Katelin Seeto.

A highlight of the evening was the announcement of cadet of the year. The panel chose Cadet Master Seargeant Katelin Seeto. She was presented with the program’s highest honor, the Air Force Association Award, and chosen to be next year’s Kitty Hawk president and director of cadet operations.
“I feel extremely excited. There are lots more opportunities and I feel that the coming year will be the best year ever. I am also very proud of Janice Bae who was running against me. She worked hard and I feel we’ll make next year even greater,” Seeto said.
Several presentations were also given. The drill and ceremonies team prepared the Prisoner of War Missing in Action table and performed a flag folding ceremony during the event. Two  flags were presented to special guests CVHS principal Linda Evans and Brigadier General McCarly.
“This is my favorite day of the school year,” said Worley. “Everything about tonight was for all the cadets.”
