Music from Stage Mingles with Classical at Cal Phil

People throughout the Southland are invited to experience the magic that is the California Philharmonic and Maestro Victor Vener during Phantom/Les Miz. The highly anticipated concert combines some of Broadway’s greatest music with classical masterpieces and takes place on Saturday, July 25 at Santa Anita Race Track. A matinee performance also takes place on Sunday, Aug. 2 at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Phantom/Les Miz special guests are Broadway stars Tracy Miller Schell and Darren Ritchie who will be making their California Philharmonic debut.

Schell’s work includes performing in “Hairspray” on Broadway, on Julio Iglesias’ world tour, and in “Les Miz” in Europe.

Schell rejoins Ritchie with whom she worked in “Dracula” on Broadway.

“She is not only a tremendous talent but a great friend,” said Ritchie who said he is especially eager to sing “Music of the Night” from “Phantom of the Opera” and “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miz.”

In addition to performing with the world-class orchestra, the talented duo will also be accompanied by the spectacular Cal Phil chorale.

The concert also features Berlioz’ electrifying “Symphonie Fantastique” and Fauré’s “Requiem.”

Additional concerts on this season’s playbill include Lights, Camera, Action! on Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 9 and Postcards From Abroad which concludes the season on Saturday, Aug. 22 and Sunday,
Aug. 23.

Saturday concerts are held under the stars at Santa Anita Race Track. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. to pre-concert dining including gourmet food offerings available on-site, full bars and live jazz. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Table and lawn seating on the lush green grass of Santa Anita Race Track’s infield are available with the area’s best unobstructed view of the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains.

On Sunday afternoons at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Cal Phil performances start at 2 p.m. with the intimate pre-concert Talks With The Maestro at 1 p.m. in BP Hall.

The California Philharmonic is supported by the California Philharmonia Society, a non-profit community benefit organization whose main emphasis at this time is to support the California Philharmonic.
