I’m catching up on some old business and letting you know about a few new things in town. As with several of my past articles, this may read a bit like a calendar of community notices events and invitations.

Update on last month article asking our community to consider some options with regard to our Glendale Unified School District. If you have not taken the online survey, I highly recommend you let us hear your opinion. http://thecvcouncil.com/be-heard-cv/

So far the results show 69% of the people taking the poll favor creating a new school district. When asked if GUSD listen to parents and residents, 39% said No and 43% said sometimes. I think we clearly have a communication problem here. If you want to see all of the results there is a link on the page mentioned above.

8th Annual Crescenta Valley Pancake Breakfast on Saturday Sept. 19 from 7 a.m. – 11a.m.  The tradition continues in the CV High School quad. This year you have the ability to specify where 50% of the proceeds of every ticket you purchase will be donated. Our only request is you keep it local. Please feel free to request tickets to sell as you will be able to fund raise for your organization. So far lots of the CV teams and organizations have taken us up on the opportunity. And don’t forget – we do serve some of the best pancakes in town. Hope to see you all there. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online www.thecvCouncil.com.

CV Town Council General wants your input on an Election Date change.  Did you know every year the CV Town Council has its own election not tied to any other general election? Currently the election is held every year in November at the La Crescenta Library. Council is discussing moving the election to April. Do you think this is a good idea or not? Let us know your opinion. The survey can be found on our website www.thecvcouncil.com in the upper menu bar titled Election Date Survey.

A new holiday tradition is coming to La Crescenta. This year at the request of the CV Town Council and the overwhelming support and approval from Supervisor Michael Antonovich, La Crescenta will have its first annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The main tree in front of the La Crescenta Library will be decorated and lit for the entire holiday season. As we get closer to the holidays we will release the date and all of the fun activities we are planning for our community.

Please join us for an Evening at the Commons on Friday, Aug. 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Crescenta Commons, on the corner of Orange and Rosemont in La Crescenta, is now complete. Please join us and share the story behind your tile with the community and all of those who worked so hard to bring this corner to life. Even if you did not have a donor tile please stop by and see how beautiful the sundial lined with custom handmade tiles shines like a piece of art. A very special thank you to Ines Chessum for completing all 177 handmade tiles.

CV Town Council Land Use meeting on Thursday, Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m. La Crescenta Library Community Room, 2809 Foothill Blvd. The petitioner for a CUP (conditional use permit) to move the charter school Options For Youth to a new location, 2626 Foothill Blvd., will be back on the agenda.

CV Town Council General Meeting on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. Held at the La Crescenta Library in the community room, this month L.A. County Tax assessor Jeffery Prange will give a brief presentation and take a few questions. In addition, CV Town Council will hear the Land Use recommendation regarding the Options for Youth CUP application to move its school to a new location on Foothill.

Caltrans pavement and slab replacement project to improve the 210 will continue through mid-2018. The project is from the Dunsmore Avenue undercrossing in La Crescenta to the North Los Robles Avenue overcrossing in Pasadena. As the project moves forward many of our on- and off-ramps will be closed from 30-45 days at a time. We will keep you posted as those closures begin.

Finally come out this Friday night and support the American Legion at one of the best bingo games in town held at Holy Redeemer Church in Montrose on Aug. 14 at Healy Hall. First game starts at 6 p.m.
