Our Lady of Lourdes became the recipient of a remodeling grant by the John & Dorothy Shae Foundation, an organization dedicated to fixing up existing buildings throughout the L.A. Archdiocese. Each year a small number of schools are chosen to receive the grant. Out of the 240-plus Catholic elementary schools, 14 were chosen through the Shae Foundation to complete much needed maintenance at the schools and parishes.
Earlier this year, representatives from the Shae Foundation visited OLL and saw that the school clearly was in need of renovations. The total cost of the project at OLL was about $120,000.
Major upgrades occurred throughout the elementary and junior high campuses that included renovating the restrooms, a faculty room, classroom lighting and school drinking fountains. There is fresh paint, ceiling fans, new flooring, water filters and energy-efficient lighting – all completed in a month’s time.
Our Lady of Lourdes School continues to teach children from local communities on the basics of faith, education and service and has been a steady force in the local community for over 60 years.
Neatly nestled in the hillsides of Tujunga on the corner of Apperson Street and Tujunga Canyon Boulevard, OLL is making strides to upgrade their community. Those who drive by will see the freshly painted fencing and eco-friendly landscaping. This project was generously headed by the Lund and Peterson families, longtime parishoners and OLL alumni.
OLL Principal Jennifer Reynaga welcomes anyone interested in having a personal tour of the newly renovated school. To make arrangements, call her at (818) 353-1106. www.ourladyoflourdes.us
