We lost a wonderful deputy last night – Deputy Cecilia Hoschet

“We lost a wonderful deputy last night,” said Sheriff Jim McDonnell. “Deputy Cecilia Hoschet impressed everyone she met at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department with her positive and helpful approach to her work. She enjoyed being a deputy and really liked people. She leaves behind a 6 year-old son, whom she loved dearly.  She will be missed,” he said. “Our thanks to the entire public safety community for your condolences to our Sheriff’s Department family.”

Deputy Cecilia Hoschet worked at the Inmate Reception Center of the Los Angeles County jail. She served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for two years, having begun her career in a civilian capacity.  Her son is in the care of relatives.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Statement Regarding the Incident that took place on September 6

Last night, the Los Angeles County Fire Department was informed that Fire Fighter Paramedic James M. Taylor died from a self-inflicted wound. Fire Fighter Paramedic James M. Taylor was employed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department for six years, and was assigned to the Pacoima warehouse facility.

“Today is a sad day for all public safety personnel in Los Angeles County. On behalf of the entire Fire Department, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends facing the pain of their loss. Our thoughts are with everyone who was impacted by this tragedy. As we continue to learn more, we thank all of the entities involved for their assistance and will continue to support our brothers and sisters in the Los Angeles County Sheriffs’ Department.”

UPDATE 8 a.m.:

The names of the victims in the apparent suicide/murder investigation in La Cañada have not been released by the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office.

In a televised press conference Lt. Dave Coleman, LASD Homicide Unit, said the couple had a six-year-old child who was in the home when his father apparently shot his mother.

“(The child) was present at the time of the incident,” Coleman said.

The father dropped the child off at a relative’s home and then continued to the Pacoima fire facility where he died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound, Cole said.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station responded to the 5000 block of Crown Avenue in La Cañada Flintridge at 9:51 p.m. on Sunday.

“Deputies responded to a woman screaming. When they arrived they found the victim of a gunshot wound, ” said Deputy Moody, LASD spokesman.

After an investigation by the LASD Homicide Unit it was found the woman, a veteran of two years of the LASD,  had been fatally shot by her husband, a five year veteran of the Los Angeles County Fire Dept.

Los Angeles Police Department notified detectives they had found the husband.

“The [husband] had fled the scene to a fire facility in Pacoima where he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Moody said.
