CVCA MEETING PLANNED

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will meet on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library Community Room. The public is invited discuss water conservation, El Niño and drought with representatives from Glendale and CV Water District. Light refreshments.

DEA Rx Drug Take-back

On Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. drug take-back events are being held throughout the foothills. The public can bring old and unwanted medicines for safe and anonymous disposal to CVS in Montrose, Rite Aid in La Crescenta and La Cañada and the CV Sheriff’s Station on Briggs. Needles, lancets and syringes can only be brought to the CV Sheriff’s Station. For more information, visit dea.gov.

GIFF This Weekend

The second annual Glendale International Film Festival kicks off tonight, Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Blvd. in Glendale. It continues through Sunday, Sept. 27 at the MGN Five Star Cinema, 128 N. Maryland Ave. in Glendale. Special awards will be given to filmmakers residing in the Glendale/Pasadena/Burbank areas. There will be screenings of international, national and local films as well as web series, shorts, new media animation and student films.

Community Meetings Planned

The Community Services & Parks Dept. is expected to receive approximately $16 million in downtown, and near downtown, development-related fees over the next 12 months. The City of Glendale is hosting community meetings to hear from the public on park needs and priorities. All are invited to attend a community meeting to share thoughts and ideas on where and how to spend these funds.

North Area Glendale residents are particularly encouraged to attend a workshop to help plan the future of Glendale’s parks and open spaces. The meetings will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Maple Park Community Center, 820 E. Maple St. and on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at Pacific Park Community Center, 501 S. Pacific Ave.

Local Leaders Honored by GEF

Glendale Education Foundation will honor Nick Lam of Pacific BMW, the Glendale Council PTA and Teacher of the Year Andrea Reuter with the Educational Excellence Awards at the annual State of Schools Breakfast on Oct. 8 from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Edison Elementary School in Glendale. The cost is $25 per person.
