Hi, CV!

CV Alliance’s first fundraiser is on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Flappers Comedy Club in beautiful downtown Burbank (Magnolia and First). The club is easily accessible, Burbank has lots of free parking, and the comics are teen-friendly. Throw in support for prevention efforts in our community and there are a handful of reasons why your family should be there! Purchase tickets online via flapperscomedy.com. Click on calendar, and you’ll see us. Each ticket is only $30.  The monies we raise will go towards programs benefiting youth, parents and our community. Hope to see you there!

With your support, CV Alliance continues to grow in its ability to inform, educate, help and unify people in CV and the entire GUSD. One former boardmember said, “We started as a garage band and hit the big time.” Well, not quite the big time, but a bigger time.

The new board contains many professionals working in substance abuse and prevention and mental health, in various institutions (faith, government, education, family) familiar to people of CV and of greater Glendale, as well as people in key roles in PTA Council, Glendale Education Foundation and CV Youth Alliance. All are individuals who care about the health and well-being of our young people. It’s a great group; you know most of them already, so please come out to our events and get to know them better.

Three immediate opportunities are the kick-off of International Red Ribbon Movement on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. at USC VHH, Red Ribbon Week Presentation at Toll Middle School on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and at our Flappers fundraiser!

Alliances are really very simple, they arise out of the fact that we are different, and yet may have common goals, they grow on two conditions, that you and I both of us understand that we need each other to survive, and that we have the courage to ask each other what that means.
