Los Angeles County Sheriffs from Crescenta Valley Station captured two burglary suspects after a daylong search.

The CV Station received a call concerning a possible burglary at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the 5500 block of Rock Castle Drive in La Cañada.

“We had a burglary in progress,” said Lt. Bill Jaeger.

Deputies responded in about a minute, according to Jaeger.

“We detained and arrested one suspect,” Jaeger said.

A second suspect was able to escape the area. LASD began searching the area.

“We believe he made his way into the mountains. We followed trails for quite some distance,” he said.

The LASD K9 unit was deployed as well as air support. Deputies did recover a vehicle believed to belong to the suspects.

Deputies advised residents via overhead announcements within the area to stay inside their home.

CV Sheriff’s Station released the K9 Unit from the search earlier in the day. Then a few minutes past 4 p.m. the station received a call regarding a suspicious person in the 5500 block of Rock Castle Road, said Lt. Mohrhoff.

“Deputies arrived in less than five minutes and detained the suspect who was on a hillside [in the area],” he said.

The man was identified as the second suspect deputies had been searching for, who had apparently been hiding in the nearby hillside.

LASD Air 5 was called in to airlift the suspect from the mountainous terrain.

During the search deputies searched several homes of concerned residents who had left the doors to their homes unlocked.

“If you leave your home even for a short while close and lock all doors and windows,” advised Mohrhoff.
