There are only two games left in the regular season for the Crescenta Valley High School football team, and Friday night will be the biggest test yet.

The Falcons are 6-2 after throttling Pasadena last week 41-14, their fourth straight win, keeping them alive for a Pacific League title.

In that game, quarterback Evan Nelson passed for 217 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for three scores. The running game was prominent for CV against the Bulldogs. The team had seven rushers combine for 171 yards, 72 of those courtesy of Brandon Beardt. Andrew Traber (two catches for 51 yards) caught the lone touchdown pass.

On defense, Nobel Leduc had a team high 19 tackles (nine solo, 10 assisted), Bostin Lakin and Dacota Cummins each had an interception, and CV also recovered a fumble.

This was the fourth straight game when the Falcons scored at least 40 points. They’ve scored at least 35 points in six of their eight games. They are giving up an average of 14.2 points per game so far.

Friday matchup with Burroughs will determine if CV is still in the race for its second straight league title. The Indians are 7-1, 5-0 in league, averaging almost 50 points a game in those five games. CV is tied for second with Burbank (4-1). If CV wins this week and next week against Arcadia, it would assure them of at least a first-place tie. If it were to drop either game, or both, then playoff picture becomes more interesting, and not in a good way for the Falcons.
