The annual Spooktacular event hosted by the Montrose Shopping Park Assn. in the 2200-2400 blocks of Honolulu Avenue on Halloween night saw the street filled with gals and ghouls eager to learn what candy would fill their bags. Interspersed with the ongoing chorus of “trick or treat!” guests enjoyed the smooth, raw sounds of Fulkerson and Clarke. The duo performs original music as well as covers, influenced by jazz, soul, blues, folk and pop. Also found on the avenue were the jazzy sounds of the Mark Towns band that specializes in flamenco-jazz.

Not only were the children outfitted in their Halloween best, but the adults also got into the act. Helena and Armen Grigorian and their daughter Gacia were dressed in homemade Halloween costumes.

“I made the costumes, and they were made with love,” said Helena.

There were many hand-made costumes found along Honolulu, including ladybugs and an eye-catching jellyfish. But what would a Halloween event be without Anna and Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen”? Yes, there were plenty of those, too.

Jeff and Susu Woodward with their little boy Brandon were among those who opted for the cohesive family costume dressing as characters from “Star Wars.”

In addition to music and snacks, Jon Neil from Neil Art Studios gave a demonstration on pumpkin carving, wowing the crowd.
