Tasty Time at Annual Event

Taste of the Foothills was a great success last week. There was a chill in the air but the space heaters and the tortilla soup from Tortas Mexico kept us warm! We got a number of comments about how great the food was. In case you weren’t there, let me get your taste buds watering. (If you were there, here are some pleasant memories.)

Seasoning Alley shared delicious kabobs, fluffy baba ganoush and their amazing beet salad. Frank’s Famous Kitchen had tasty cheese wonton cups and tomato basil soup shooters. The Americana’s Bourbon Steak served an amazing Hamachi tostada with avocado mousse. Cracking Crab had belly-warming rice and spicy shrimp. Etc. Gourmet Kitchen doled out their ever-popular chicken salad. Thee Elbow Room had great deviled eggs. You got to spin a wheel of fortune at the Blaze Pizza booth with their delicious dessert pizza as one of the prizes. Goodie Girls of course shared their pretty and tasty cupcakes. I forgot how warm and delicious Dominos pepperoni pizza is. El Charro had their famous chili verde and Gelsinger’s Amber Road sampled their unique olive oils and balsamic vinegars on salads and sweets respectively. Ralphs Market had two booths, one with outstanding Irish cheeses, the other with yummy La Brea Bakery bread turkey sandwiches. And I had the most amazing greens & ginger cold-pressed juice from Orchard Flats.

Patrons were encouraged to leave the food court and try free samples at some neighboring eateries too. Little Caesar’s served pizza right out the oven, Baja Fresh had taquitos and Togo’s/Baskin Robbins gave away free sandwiches and ice cream scoops of your choice! Nobody went home hungry from The Taste and most people said they found new restaurants to try out.

Special thanks to other Taste partners: Crescenta-Cañada Pet Hospital for the root beer floats, CV Weekly for water, Starbucks for coffee, and CV Town Council for sodas. We’d also like to thank Chase Properties for the space, J’s Maintenance and Burrtec for keeping the place clean, L.A. Public Works for demarcation supplies, CV Water District and Event Power Associates for lighting up the night, and Bonner’s Rentals for all the set-ups. Thank you also to the American Legion and Prom Plus for volunteering. And let’s not forget the rockin’ band Faith Alone! They kept us dancing all evening.

As you can see, it takes an entire community to put on events like Taste of the Foothills. We hope you will support the businesses and organizations that support the Chamber. A portion of the night’s proceeds will be donated to our local schools.

In other news, one of our newest members, Tyler Physical Therapy and Pilates, will be celebrating a grand opening at their new location tonight. Chamber board members will be on hand at 6 p.m. for a ribbon cutting. Everyone is invited to the celebration. Food will be provided by Etc. Gourmet Kitchen and great prizes will be raffled off, including Athleta merchandise and Tyler PTP classes. The event is Thursday, Nov. 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 3810 La Crescenta Ave. near the corner of Honolulu in La Crescenta.
