Tying Up Loose Ends and Saying Goodbye
On Dec. 17 the new CV Town Council will be sworn in and several of us will say goodbye. I have had the privilege of serving on the Council for seven years. The last two years I had the honor of serving as president. Leaving the Council with me will be Councilmembers Kevin Kang and Kyle Studebaker. Kevin will continue working with the CV Youth Town Council and Kyle, who I am proud to call a dear friend, will continue to lend me a hand with ASTER. ASTER is a non-profit dedicated to senior citizens that had to be placed on hold during my term as president as it was just too much to handle. For myself, I will have a chance to take a breath and go back to focus full time on my real estate business. I will, however, continue to co-chair the median project for Foothill Boulevard as well as assist with the Parks Needs Assessment chaired by Councilmember Leslie Dickson and, as I stated earlier, work on the re-birth of ASTER.
Over the years I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and organizations in the community. I am so proud of everything the town council has been able to accomplish for our community. The honor has truly been mine and I want to thank the CV Town Council for all of its support along with the community’s support. The 2016 Council is very diverse with many dynamic members. They are certain to be a fantastic council.
The 2016 Council will be tying up some loose ends as well as starting some new projects and committees. Starting with some old business, the first draft of the Foothill median design is almost completed and will be under review shortly prior to being released for the beginning of public comment. Look for public input to happen in the early spring. If you have not heard of the Parks Needs Assessment, read on.
L.A. County will be working on a ballot measure to secure funding to improve our parks or add what our community deems important. For instance, do we want a community center, lighted soccer fields, community pool or lighted jog/walk paths? The list can go on and on; however, the want list must come from and be supported by the community. So for now put your thinking cap on and start sending your ideas for improvements, repairs and brand new projects to parks@thecvcouncil.com. Then make sure you mark your calendar to come to the outreach meeting on Jan. 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Rosemont Middle School auditorium. Community input is requested and, more importantly, necessary.
Council is also discussing the need for an Emergency Preparedness committee in the wake of the impending El Niño. Council is sure to keep its website updated with the availability of sand and sandbags as well as any other pertinent communication County will need disseminated to the community.
Lastly, as the year draws to an end, the Sagebrush issue will start to draw more and more attention as there have been meetings between the district and the consultants. Signatures are being gathered for residents of Sagebrush to move forward with a petition to the L.A. County Office of Education. Council will continue to keep the community in touch with the progress or any possible deal GUSD may or may not be making. Council clearly understands December is a time when many families are away and there would be nothing worse than to come back and hear decisions were made without the proper outreach to our community.
For now I would like to once again say thank you for your support. It has been so gratifying to give back to such a wonderful community. Please come to the Dec. 17 council meeting, La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd., at 7 p.m. to say goodbye and say hello to your new Council. The December meeting is always celebrated with a little holiday party at the end and the community is always invited. Hope to see you.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
