NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH TRAINING PLANNED
Glendale Police Department’s North Area Command Neighborhood Watch is having its Quarterly Block Captain’s training
on Wednesday, June 30
from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Sparr Heights Community Center at
1613 Glencoe Way in Glendale. This quarterly meeting will focus on bolstering neighborhood blocks for participation utilizing National Night Out. There will be additional training regarding home security and Glendale Fire CERT. RSVP to Officer Matt Zakarian at MZakarian@ci.glendale.ca.us.

BOARDING FOR A CURE
The Billy’s Boardshop Boarding for a Cure is holding its second annual event on Saturday, June 19. Boarding for a Cure aims to provide support and spread youth awareness for cancer. The event, which will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at La Cañada Skate Park south of Foothill Boulevard on Cornishon in La Cañada, will allow community youth to skate among a combination of instructional, amateur, and professional skateboarders. Additionally, Boarding for a Cure will offer participants the opportunity to create “Deck Art” in which  old and broken boards will be used to create pieces of art to symbolize the power of hope and revival.

INDIAN LAND AND FIRE MANAGEMENT TOPIC OF
HISTORICAL MEETING
At the next meeting of the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley, guest speaker Kat High, director of the Haramokngna American Indian Cultural Center located in the Angeles National Forest, will tell the story of Haramokngna’s miraculous survival through the Station Fire and its recovery plan. The local Indians, the Tongva people, lived in the Crescenta Valley and managed and maintained it in the same way we maintain our homes and roads. They used fire, in the form of controlled burns, as a tool to promote health and diversity in the plants that grow in our local mountains. Over the thousand of years they lived here, they learned land use management techniques that are proactive, rather than reactive, and that can be employed effectively today.
The meeting is on Monday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Center For Spiritual Living (formerly known as the La Crescenta Church of Religious Science) located on the corner of Dunsmore and Santa Carlotta avenues.

CRESCENTA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT
Join the council tonight for a presentation to the community regarding the La Crescenta Plaza that will be located at 2432 Foothill Blvd, on the corner of Sunset and Foothill. The project has been approved by the Regional Planning Department. Peter Park of GroupArch will be presenting the approved plans and answering community questions during the meeting. Community members are invited to come early, at 6:15 p.m. to get a sneak peek of the plans.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library community meeting room, 2809 Foothill Blvd.
