A New Year – Sweet!

This has been quite a year! Preparing the Crescenta Valley Weekly year in review that begins on page 3 reminded me of the many things (both good and bad) that have happened over the last 12 months. It also gave me a chance to get excited about events that will be taking place in the next 12 months.

For example, the Foothills Relay for Life taking place in April. I had to miss the 2015 event because of illness in my family that took me to New Hampshire. Though I was co-chair with Mary O’Keefe, being away meant that Mary had to carry the majority of the load for the 24-hour Relay. Thankfully, partners like Jean Maluccio, who took care of planning all the food, Todd Black, who managed all the sound, and previous chairs Lori Carrico and Paula Warner helped ease the burden. This year we get to partner with the Sunland-Tujunga Relay and I’m really excited about that! This group of dedicated Relayers is just as passionate about stopping the scourge that is cancer, which has robbed so many of us of those we love. I hope you will take part in this year’s Relay for Life. Plan now to join us next Thursday night, Jan. 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at J’s Maintenance (Relay for Life headquarters), 3550 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta. We’ll be mixing, mingling and planning for the 2016 Relay for Life.

Of course, Prom Plus is another high mark on my calendar. The adjustments on the Glendale Unified School District calendar mean that this year’s prom and Prom Plus are taking place earlier in May than previous years – May 14, I think. But aside from the change in date, everything that makes Prom Plus magical – the casino, food, climbing wall, and more – will pretty much remain the same. These are just two of the many things to look forward to in 2016. There are also the Glendale Educational Foundation Denim & Dancing Awards Dinner in March, the Hometown Country Fair in April, Taste of Montrose in May, Fourth of July Fireworks, GEF State of the School Breakfast in October, Thanksgiving in November and before you know it, it’ll be Christmas again!

Going through the papers for the year in review also reminded me of the many advertisers that supported this paper in 2015. Without them, the Crescenta Valley Weekly wouldn’t be alive, so let me take this opportunity to say thank you. I look forward to a year filled with opportunities to further promote your businesses.
