Trail Improvement on Shortcut Canyon

NicholAS EAGLE project day 2 023
Troop 303 performed conservation work on Shortcut Canyon Trail Jan. 16 – Jan. 17. The Shortcut Canyon Trail is part of the famous Silver Moccasin Trail and is seven miles long. The trail work project took two days and will benefit hikers while helping to conserve the trail. Work done included the resloping and regrading of brush portions of the trail so that water runoff will create fewer problems in the future.

Troop 303 worked a portion of the trail from the highway to the waterfall adding about 1,050 feet.

There were 24 boys and eight adults who participated in the two-day project donating about 203 hours in all. Among the completed work was the creation of five French drains and three rock steps. The crew also regraded the trail to prevent water erosion.
