Lights Shine Brighter at Lanterman Auditorium

The City of La Cañada Flintridge completed a series of LED lighting upgrades at Lanterman Auditorium during the month of January.

As part of a three-year lighting upgrade program, this fiscal year the City invested roughly $25,000 in new auditorium lights, spotlights and up-lights. When complete, Lanterman Auditorium will offer an enhanced experience for patrons while saving energy and cutting operation costs.

In 2003, the La Cañada Unified School District was ready to close Lanterman Auditorium due to a significant deferred maintenance backlog. At that time, the City took over maintenance of the auditorium through a joint use agreement. Since that time, funds have been allocated each year for upgrades to the facility. Improvements have been made over the years to the sound system, restrooms and dressing rooms among others.

“Lanterman has seen generations of La Cañadans pass through its doors,” said City Manager Mark Alexander, “be it for a graduation, a concert or play. It was vital that this community icon be preserved and the City has systematically worked to improve the conditions of the theater year over year. This latest upgrade is just one in a long line of improvements for the facility.”

Multiple recreational facilities throughout La Cañada Flintridge are maintained by the City through joint use agreements, demonstrating an investment in the community that reaches far beyond the basic services of government.
